Contextual Design

The Contextual Design process consists of the following stages:

  • Contextual Inquiry.  An ethnographic method for gathering data relevant to the design problem.  This method uncovers implicit aspects of work that would normally be invisible.
  • Interpretation sessions.  Meetings of a cross-functional design team that represents everyone who has a stake in the outcomes of the process.  Through these meetings, all aspects of customers work are captured efficiently.
  • Work models.  A coherent set of representations of customer's work to reveal aspects of work that are relevant to design and provide a consistent reference for designers.
  • Affinity diagram.
