What's New

I am finishing up an M.Ed. program in Montessori Elementary Education at the Montessori Institute of Milwaukee and Loyola College in Maryland. Here is a paper I wrote on Angle Concept Formation.

Squeak Talk: Squeak is free "media authoring tool" with a Smalltalk development environment for hackers who want to get "under the hood". It was inspired in part by the work of Seymour Papert (the Logo guy), who will be a keynote speaker at the conference. I'll be presenting a new version of Circular Reasoning fractures and fraction circles at Squeakfest '06, which takes place July 19-21, 2006 at Columbia College. These fractures and fraction circles can be added to the Squeak eToys environment, which will greatly extend their usability. See the Circular Reasoning page for new Squeak version of Circular Reasoning.

CTD Workshop: The Center for Talent Development ran a one day conference from 1pm to 5:15pm on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at the Technological Institute on the Evanston campus of Northwestern University. As part of this conference, I ran a Bits and Blocks workshop for children in grades 4-6. Attendees must register for the conference. See brochure.

NCTM Talk: I spoke at the NCTM Western Regional Conference and Exposition in Denver, Colorado on November 12, 2005. The talk is called "Exploring Angles with MicroWorlds and Circular Reasoning". Here's a link to slides and notes from the talk.

On the Teachers page you can watch a movie that shows how to teach kids some basics of Turtle Geometry using Montessori materials.

A new page has been added for Math and Computers students.

A movie about the MSWLogo programming environment has been added to the algebra and Math and Computers pages.
